June 7, 2011: Yesterday was June 6 – 67 years after the greatest, largest, most successful, and the last huge amphibious landing in the history of the world. D-DAY. It will never happen again.
Today, we had another landing – though not amphibious. After a year of servicing our Wounded Warriors, in the open courtyard of the C5 building, we landed in our own digs – building 33, next to the MRI unit at Naval Hospital, San Diego. It is a steel building with more than adequate electrical and lighting. The transportation department (the responsible department) will put in a ventilator, and supply us with 2 open shelve cabinets.
Today, we transferred the six lathes stored at the Armed Forces YMCA, set up another wheel chair access lathe (we now have 3), and deposited a mini Vicmark lathe in our somewhat spacious space. We brought all our tools, chucks, supplies, and, of course, our wood.
